Case
The Thirty-first Patriarch, Daii Zenji: He bowed deeply to Kanchi Daishi and said, “I beg you, Master, have
mercy on me; please grant me the Dharma gate of liberation.” The patriarch said, “Who is binding you?” The master
said, “There is no one binding me.” The patriarch said, “Then why do you search for further liberation?” By these
words the master came to a great enlightenment
Verse
The mind is void, the pure wisdom knows no wrong nor right.
Herein you do not know what binds you or what you will be liberated from.
Even if the five aggregates and the four elements are separated,
Seeing, hearing, voices, and colours are ultimately no other.
